In Him

My work is a reflection of my creator.

[ Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men - Colossians 3:23 ]

This scripture is the soundtrack to my life. In my personal relationship with God,

this is how I love to relate to Him the most. In my excellence. There are many

times when we get caught up in doing the same routines on a day-to-day basis

and it no longer becomes valuable or significant to us anymore. This is primarily

found is our workplace, academics, relationships and even church. As a

Christian, I think it’s always important to reflect God’s goodness in our lives as

much as possible. I mean, I take pride in being called a child of God because of

God’s attention to detail and obsession with excellence, which flows through my

DNA as a son of the Most High.

Personally, I came from a background where excellence was the standard in my

home. Coming from a Nigerian family, there was no room for mediocrity. My

parents (mainly my father) was hard on my siblings and I when it came to

academics and making sure we were on top of it all. As I got older, I realized

how this discipline matured in different areas of my life. I finally realized that this

was the Lord’s doing.

Being excellent now became the standard to everything that I do as an artist.

Many people that know me personally can vouch that I am a perfectionist. Yup,

that’s me. I actually cringe when I see something that has the potential to be

better. This makes me love what I do as a freelance videographer &

photographer the most. I am able to work with clients from local businesses to

personal lifestyle brands and apply my excellence of work to their brand. When I

work on a project or shoot, I always pray beforehand and invite the Holy Spirit to

join me. I’ve found this to be very helpful because the Holy Sprit gives me so

much creative insight and inspiration. This ties to my willingness to work as I am

working for God. My work is a reflection of my creator. If I work with the

mentality that “Lord, I’m giving all that I have in this moment for you,” then my

approach to the task is changed and I am intentional about working on this

project focused, diligent, and zealous.

[ 1 Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own

possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness

into his marvelous light. ]

The Lord is calling you to be excellent. Why? Because it points back to Him.

Brothers and sisters, let us remember that we are not here to please man, be

accepted into these “cool” social groups, but to honor the Father with our lives.

As you begin to live your life in total excellence, you will see the abundant fruits

that derive from it. It’s truly a blessing, I promise. Excellence comes from doing

our best with what the Lord has given us without the intention of trying to be

better than the next person. You cannot measure excellence by comparing

yours to another. The spirit of excellence looks different through the lives of

many but focus on how your light of excellence shines. Learn. Grow. Pursue.

Let us be great stewards of our gifting's and show gratitude to the One who

deserves it all. Shalom.
