Why Read?

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
— Hebrews 4:12

I love the Word of God. Why? Because no matter what I needed, the Word of God was the answer. However, it wasn’t always that way. The Word of God was not always the place I went for answers. It was not the first thing I looked to for direction. As matter of fact, I really did not understand the Word. I did not truly understand the POWER that it had. I did not truly know how it would change my life, but it did. To be quite honest, I can spend an entire day talking about the Word of God and how God has spoken to me through it, but you will never really know unless you read it for yourself. My challenge to you, read the Bible. Set a reminder of your phone and just go for it. You have nothing to lose, but I will tell you this, you do have something to gain.

What I really want to spend some time talking about two perceptions of the Word before I knew God.

Before I knew God, I saw the Word as ‘out of date’.

The word of God is alive. It is active. God speaks to us through His word. As matter of fact, He is the Word. We have to realize that the same God who lead Moses across the Red Sea is the same God who lives with us and is in us today. So why do we treat the Word like it doesn’t apply to us now? We may not be Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, but we can certainly lead our families out of debt and into financial freedom.

Before I knew God, I saw the Word as a buffet.

We cannot just pick and choose what we want God to say to us. Of course, throughout the Bible, God has a lot of phenomenal, amazing, living changing things to speak into our lives. Just know that there will be times where you may not want to admit that you have to forgive that person that hurt you years ago. God aims to better your heart and that’s why I love the Word! I know that if I’m messing up and no one tells me, at least God will. LOL But really...

If you are reading this, know that God loves you and He wants the best for you. Don’t settle for a good life. Don’t settle for a great life. God’s Word can lead you to a perfect life. It will guide you when you have no idea where you are going. If you felt like you’ve never heard from God, just know that He is always speaking through His Word. Let’s not take it for granted. It’s not just a good book to read when we feel like it, but make it a habit. Make it your lifestyle and I guarantee that you will be transformed in every area of your life.
